The Sunbird Trust
Established in 2014, Sunbird Trust is a non-religious and apolitical not for profit organisation working in remote and conflict affected parts of North East India with the motto of Peace through Education. It facilitates physical and financial access to education through building schools and hostels and providing child sponsorships. It engages with local communities in livelihood development and fostering peace, thus helping build bridges between people here and their countrymen elsewhere in India.
Why SG Photos and The Sun Bird Trust?
Children’s education is a cause close to my heart. It’s not that education is the ultimate solution for the kids who lack opportunities. Education offers them a better chance at helping create the spark that, hopefully, ultimately enables the kids to achieve their life goals or develop a sense of purpose, self-worth, and confidence. Choose a path they want.
I know the people at The Sun Bird Trust. Have donated money in the past and helped raise funds for them. I know the money is put towards the cause that’s committed to.
Constantly hammering donors for funds leads to donor fatigue, and there are only so many people you can reach out to. I had a bunch of photos lying on my hard disk for a long time. The few I processed gave some brief joy to me, my family, and friends. They created good memories. But they stayed there, on the disk, seldom viewed after the initial, immediate enthusiasm after a trip.
A comment from a respected photographer on one of the rare photos I posted on Instagram sparked a thought. He wrote “Finally some images out of the disk ” on the photo of a Snow Leopard I had posted a few months after our trip. That led to me posting more regularly, and the photos got some traction. Nothing major. But the thought kept gnawing at me, is this about chasing likes? What if I do get more likes than I did? What value were those likes adding to anyone’s life? Except for that momentary self-satisfaction that someone, apart from a friend or family member, has liked my work.
I decided to merge my two passions. Sell the photos to donate to a children’s charity. SG Photos was born.
If you like these photos enough to buy a print, the children, and I thank you in advance for your patronage.
