Award-Winning Wildlife & Natural-History Photographer | Conservationist | Explorer

Sagar Gosavi

What began as a childhood fascination with birds has evolved into a lifelong mission to document, celebrate, and conserve the world’s wild places.

Sagar Gosavi is an award-winning natural-history photographer whose passion for wildlife has taken him from the forests of India to some of the most remote and unforgiving landscapes on Earth. For more than two decades, he has dedicated his life to capturing the extraordinary beauty of the natural world, telling stories of its fragile ecosystems, and inspiring others to protect the wilderness that remains.

His journey began with birds—birdwatching, bird photography, and an insatiable curiosity about the living world. That early passion grew into a commitment to documenting India’s natural heritage. Over the years, Sagar has photographed more than 800 bird species, including rare and elusive birds from remote, little-explored forests of Arunachal Pradesh and the high-altitude landscapes of the Trans-Himalayas.

In Pursuit of the Ghost of the Mountains

For more than a decade, Sagar has led specialized snow leopard photography expeditions into the upper Himalayas, pursuing one of the world’s most elusive and iconic predators. His work has taken him deep into remote mountain wilderness, where extreme cold, thin air, rugged terrain, and unpredictable conditions test both human endurance and photographic skill.

At altitudes reaching 15,800 feet in the Himalayas, Sagar has experienced extraordinary close encounters with snow leopards—moments that demand unwavering patience, fieldcraft, and respect for the animal and its habitat. His images are not merely photographs of a rare predator; they are a testament to the resilience of wildlife and the remarkable privilege of witnessing nature in its most pristine form.

His pursuit of the snow leopard represents a deeper purpose: to bring the hidden lives of wild animals into the public eye and foster a greater appreciation and protection of the landscapes they depend upon.

A Mission Beyond the Lens

With more than 20 years of experience in wildlife photography, Sagar has led over 600 photography tours, workshops, and expeditions, mentoring more than 800 aspiring wildlife photographers. Through SGP photo tours, he creates immersive wildlife experiences that encourage photographers to learn, explore, and connect with nature while developing a deeper understanding of responsible wildlife photography.

For Sagar, every expedition is an opportunity to share knowledge, nurture the next generation of nature photographers, and inspire a lasting commitment to conservation. His work demonstrates how photography can become a powerful voice for the wild—transforming fleeting encounters into stories that encourage people to care, protect, and act.

A Legacy of Exploration, Excellence, and Conservation

Sagar’s award-winning photography has been featured in national and international publications, earning recognition for his ability to capture rare wildlife and the breathtaking landscapes in which they survive. His expertise and dedication have also led to his role as a Canon India Photo Mentor and photography-competition juror, where he continues to guide, inspire, and recognize emerging talent.

From a child captivated by birds to an accomplished photographer standing among the high peaks of the Himalayas, Sagar Gosavi’s journey is one of passion transformed into purpose.
